Explaination: The place-name clearly refers to the abundance of spring water in the area («sette» usually means seven in this case it means many). We have news of Settefonti and its castle dating back to the end of the X111 century. The castle is first mentioned officially in 1210.S. Magherita the church at Settefonti part of the Montemauro parish is documented from 1285. From an administrative point of view in the X1V century Settefonti formed one single ruraldistrict first with the villages of Collina and Laguna which still exist north west of Settefonti and later with S. Andrea.
