A village of the municipality Castel Bolognese, located 2 km south of the town.
Description: A land named Biancanigo is mentioned in a papyrus dating back to 824. The origin of the name Biancanigo is uncertain; according to some, it means "the place where the flocks were", according to others “the place where fabrics are dyed". The church of San Pietro Apostolo in Biancanigo (St. Peter Apostle) is first mentioned in 1289. It was completely destroyed in 1781 (by an earthquake) and during the battel front on the Senio river. The cemetery is located near the church. At the end of the Strada Rossi (Rossi road), not too far from the church, there is the oratorio Rossi (Oratory), dedicated to San Giuseppe and San Sebastiano. On the 17th December 1944 in the Biancanigo area near the oratorio Rossi, the Germans blew up the farm house located in Strada Rossi in the "Crociaro di Sotto" farm near the Senio river. The Cristoferi and Montanari families with some other evacuees sought refuge in the basement of the house. Twenty-one people died under the ruins; only the head of the Montanari family survived, because he left the refuge. At the same time, the Germans also blew up Villa Rossi, but fortunately there was nobody hiding in the house at the time.
