Pilgrimage to Bocca di Rio

Itinerary details: The departure is set for 3:00 in the morning from the Piazzale della Chiesa S. Maria Assunta. You take the SS 306 until you reach a fork in the road which goes to the Parrocchia di S. Rufillo; from here go along the road that winds through the woods until you reach Castel del Rio. Then continue through woods and chestnut groves until you arrive at Piancladoli where you will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, you will start again following the paved road, until you are next to the Sasso di San Zenobi. From here take the state road until a certain point, where you have to go along the fields to arrive at Monte Albano where you will stop for the night. The next day you will leave at 6:00 following the paved road and going through some towns such as Pietra Mala, until you reach the Passo della Futa. Continue through the woods until S. Giacomo. From here you will reach Santuario Bocca di Rio after about 45 minutes. When you arrive, Holy Mass will be held as the conclusion to the pilgrimage.

Additional information: The pilgrimage to Bocca di Rio, was created to follow the example of other analogous spiritual journeys such as Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrimage was made the first time in 1989.

Itinerary:The pilgrimage is about 70 km long over two days.

 

When: The pilgrimage takes place every year the last weekend of August.




Organisation: The pilgrimage leaves from the Chiesa Archipretale Santa Maria Assunta.
