Riolo T.- Abbaz.-Villa V.-Pas Cannaz-Torre Mar.-P.te Rio Cugno-Cas. Vento-Riolo

Tourist offices: I.A.T. Riolo Terme

Itinerary details: Starting at the roundabout at the entrance to the centre of Riolo Terme take the Viale delle Rimembranze (follow the sign to "Villa Azzurra") until you pass the church. Then turn left into Via Ripa and follow it as far as the Abbey, the old monastery of San Pietro in Sala. Here continue towards Cavedagna, where at first the road goes up and then goes down to the Senio at Casalci, and then winds up and down to the Cuffiano cemetery. The road rises up to the river and then crosses it veering a little to the left and passes the Masseria Vecchia (unusual style house built after the war). The road then rises and goes round the Villa Zacchia park as far as the provincial road (at the cross-roads there is a memorial stone to partisans killed in the war). Take the left turn passing the Limisano Church, at the next cross-roads turn left again passing Villa Vezzano, as the road goes down you’ll see the sign for "Brisighella" (Via Rio Chie). The road passes the Sintria river and goes up the eroded valley, the road here is a gravel path and takes you to under the Cannazzetto pass. Turn right at the cross-roads which takes you uphill to the rise on which the Marino tower stands, this was built by the Naldi family in 1400. There is now a long descent which becomes asphalt towards the end, to the Sinitria river which it crosses returning to Villa Vezzano next to the church. Turn left towards Brisighella, at the Rio Cugno bridge at the bottom of the descent, leave the provincial road and take the gravel path, with the stream still on your left the road follows an eroded valley. The gravel stops after 2 km and the route goes up to the left following a very broken mud path, take the next right turn which goes up past the Casecchie ruins. Continue to the bottom of the landslides passing two little lakes up to the breakwater with the Senio. Continue to Riolo where the quickest route to the end is to follow the SS road towards Casola, alternatively after the bridge you can turn right for the more scenic route through the old part of the village.
Additional information: The route is not very difficult, but is better followed in dry weather, otherwise it can be difficult crossing the Senio at the Abbey and taking the final rise at Rio di Cugno. The route does not go up very high and can be very hot in the summer.
Itinerary:The route is 20.7 km long and climbs 400 m high.
