From Zattaglia to Ca di Malanca

Tourist offices: U.I.T Casola Valsenio

Itinerary details: Leaving from the bridge Ponte di Zattaglia (in front of the service station), cross the torrent Sintria, following the asphalted street Via Mulino Boldrini which, after 6 km. becomes a gravel road. Continue on passing the farm inn Il Poggiolo where you turn left after the Casetto dei Preti di Valgelato, an old house-tower completely in ruins (m. 410 a.s.l.).Beyond the barrier, there is an unpaved incline which has been devastated by off-road vehicles, and where it is completely impossible to pedal, with occasional faded red and white road signs; gradually it becomes more regular with some stretches of gravel but even so, it is decidedly tiring. After about a half hour you will arrive in front of Ca di Malanca (m. 720 a.s.l.). Follow left along the ridge which has the road signs CAI n° 505. Between ups and downs and in and out of the woods, after about 5 km. you will arrive at a trail near an oak on whose trunk there is a sacred image. Descend through a group of houses (Bago), and maintain the same direction after a cemented descent, toward the houses “il Tre” and below Via Cavina that arrives at the corner of the Church of San Pietro. At the asphalt, go left and at the fork after the bottom of the valley, turn right taking in the opposite direction the street that leads to Zattaglia.
Additional information: The red and white road signs are a very useful reference for a stretch along the n° 505 trail and, especially between Ca Malanca and Ca Bago, they help identify the trail, but in this part there are stretches that are narrow and a little dangerous (proceed with caution). The trail can also be taken in the opposite direction (clockwise direction on the map). If you take this route, bear in mind there will be brief roads that can not be cycled on along the CAI n° 505 trail, although the piece between Cą di Malanca and Casetto dei Preti is quite easy. The complete itinerary can be done only if the road is not wet.
Itinerary: A 26 km. trail with an altitude difference of 600 m.
