Casola Valsenio-Rio della Nave-Montefortino-Monte dei Pini-Casola Valsenio

Itinerary details: Just outside Casola Valsenio leave the state road and take the provincial road for Fontanelice which after less than a Km passes the Herb Garden. Continue up the hill for another 4 km until you come to the Roncosole pine woods, after this there is a  fork (m. 494 a.s.l.) turn left into a dirt road which descends along the gorge carved out by the Nave River (flows into the Senio). This descent takes us past Montefortino (m. 508 a.s.l.) on which we can see Montis Fortini (a military fortress destroyed by the people of Faenza in 1216).Continuing the road takes us down to Monte dei Pini (m. 392 a.s.l.).A steep descent takes us to the S.S. road in Cantone, just up the hill from the village which you reach by turning left.
Additional information: This route takes you through typical high Apennine landscape. Monte dei Pini is particularly worth seeing.
Itinerary: 13 km route taking around 1hr and 50 minutes

 

 

When: Possible all year round with the exception of rainy days.
