Itinerary details: Just outside Casola Valsenio leave the state road and take the provincial road for Fontanelice which after less than a Km passes the Herb Garden. Continuing up hill for about 5 km looking down on the left we can see Casola Valsenio nestling in the natural amphitheatre created by the River Senio. On the right is the hill on which the Chiesa di Prugno (Church) is perched, and after a few twists and turns we come across the Roncosole pine woods. Once up on the ridge which separates the Senio and Salterno valleys turn left into the road to Monte Battaglia (m. 715 a.s.l.).Follow the road around the Monte Battaglia fortress and continue along the breakwater with its continuous ups and downs touching the Church of Val Maggiore (m. 698 a.s.l.), M.te Acuto (m. 735 a.s.l.) until you reach Macchia dei Cani. At this point turn left and go down to the Prati Piani (Flat pastures) road which you follow for a short way towards north where you turn right into the descent which goes down to the bottom of the rio S. Apollinare gorge. When you arrive in front of the church turn left for the old Casola a Palazzuolo road. After a short descent the road meets the S.S. 306, almost 8 km to Casola which we reach going over the bridge 6 times.
