Castelletto di Sarna

Municipalities: Municipalities:Faenza

Address: Via Borgo Tuliero

Tourist offices: I.A.T. Faenza

A type of model-manor house, built in 1870 for ornamental and pastime reasons, on the hills at the rear of Villa Gessi.

Explaination: This is a scale reconstruction, built around 1870 in the wake of the neomedieval style in vogue at the time and as an ornamental building for the Villa Gessi park. Tradition has it that this unique model-manor house reflects, in miniature, the features of the Rocca di Selvamaggiore that, supposedly, once rose on this site.

Directions: The castle can be reached from the road with the same name that branches off from the “Modiglianese” Provincial road about 1 km from the town. Proceed along the Castelletto di Sarna road for about 6 km and then turn left straight after Villa Gessi into Via Borgo Tuliero, and proceed for less than 1 km; at the top of the slope on the outer side of a curve, turn into a driveway that passes through fields and that reaches the already visible castle. There are no fences and no explicit No Entry signs, though it is always polite to ask the keepers of Villa Gessi, located below, for permission to enter.
