A 117-hour workshop, free of charge, to learn how to restore archaeological material and acquire knowledge also in view of future professional opportunities. This is the purpose of the course, organized by Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici of Emilia Romagna region and Società archeologica TECNE s.r.l. of Riccione for the second year in a row.  

This course will take place in Faenza (RA), at the Ceramic Restoration Lab of ISA, from Monday 9th August till Thursday 9th September 2010. Classes for the 10 selected attendees will take place from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 1 pm. Applications, on unstamped paper, showing the applicant’s personal details, with a CV attached and a copy of the identity document, will have to be submitted by 1 pm on 31st July 2010 to Katia Poletti, via Aurora 44 - 48013 Brisighella (RA)

Free access (and also free of charge), is the round of chats on “ceramic production, recovery and restoration methods for archaeological finds”. The meetings will take place at I.S.A., Istituto Statale d’Arte per la Ceramica “Gaetano Ballardini”, in Corso Baccarini n. 17, Faenza (RA), from 9th to 13th August from 11 am to 1 pm. There will be 5 meetings, 2 hours each, on the following topics:

- History of majolica tiles, from their origins till today – 1° part
- History of majolica tiles, from their origins till today – 2° part
- Ceramic techniques and technologies
- Archaeological recovery: from finding to preserving in storage
- Restoration trends in history: conservative restoration and restoration of antiques

Restoration workshop (only for course participants)
The course on restoration, held by RestauroConservazioneArte of Katia Poletti in collaboration with professor Rino Casadio of I.S.A. per le Ceramiche di Faenza and the Restoration Lab of Soprintendenza per I Beni Archeologici of Emilia Romagna region, will take place at the premises of I.S.A. per le Ceramiche di Faenza.
The course will take place from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 1 pm, starting from 9th August 2010.
The course will tackle the following issues on ceramic restoration:
- Mechanical and chemical cleaning of surface
- Fixing and consolidation
- Assembly of fragments with different binders
- Filling of little holes and restoring with wax
- Formal and pictorial integration
- Conservative tricks and wrapping
- How to fill in restoration technical sheets

At the end of the project, upon participants’ request, an attendance certificate will be issued, to be used in compliance with legal regulations.



 

Admission criteria (only for students) 
A special admissions Committee will evaluate the applications submitted within the published submission date.
The Committee will evaluatethe student's credentials, the curricula in accordance with the criteria set by theSoprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici dell'Emilia-Romagna.
The Project manager (Mrs. Katia Poletti) may ask the participants to submit a copy of the documents and job assignments mentioned in the admission form.

Aim of the course
A 117-hour workshop, free of charge, will take place from Monday, 9 August to Thursday, 9 September 2010 at the Ceramic Restoration Lab of ISA, in Faenza.

Two categories of participants: students (10 seats) and auditors. All participants (students and auditors) will have the opportunity to attend lectures given by professors and experts (archaeologists, restorers, ceramists, scientists).   
Restoration workshop (only for course participants)
Enrolment is open to students who already have a high school diploma, restores, and graduates in Art history and Archaeology.
All required texts will be providedto participants.

The 4th and the 5th year ISA Art students may attend the course.
