When: Saturday, January 5, 2019

Program: On 5th January, the eve of the Epiphany, in the Piazza del Popolo square, in the heart of Faenza, a spectacular festival is held, that recalls the joy of the Palio del Niballo jousting tournament. The Niballo is the name of the large "Saracen"-like structure that is then burnt like a bonfire. Here the "Niballo" becomes the symbol of the year that has just passed and the symbol of every kind of adversity. To burn it brings hope for a good year. At midnight on the dot the Niballo of the past year is set on fire; this is the culmination of the celebrations and, in the crowded square, the typical majolica "gotti" mugs that have been decorated by the ceramic maestri of Faenza are emptied. These mugs are full of "biso", hot mulled wine.During the evening there is also music and performances of various types, all of this is accompanied by tasty specialities served in the stands of the various "rioni".
